Do you plug in a hose somewhere before setting to back wash an in ground pool?

Notnormally You may have to top up the water a bit because the back wash process tends to lower the water level of the pool a bit bit no hoses need to be plugged in anywhere as the backwash system is part of the filtration set up. Below I have put in backwash instructions

# while pressing down on valve handle, turn it from the FILTER to the BACKWASH position # start the pump # usually there is a clear bubble on or near the multiport valve. it shows the condition of the water. at first the water in it will look dirty when it clears up, turn of the pump.

# Turn multiport valve handle to RINSE and Run it rinse for about 30 seconds seconds. # Turn off the pump then move the multiport valve handle to FILTER position # Turn pump back on and note lower pressure. ----

Back washing a D.E. filter with a multiport valve; # Turn of the pump

# while pressing down on valve handle, turn it from the FILTER to the BACKWASH position # Start the pump

# Let the water run for 2 - 3 minutes or until it runs clear. Turn of the pump.

# Turn multiport valve handle to RINSE and Run it rinse for about 5 to10 seconds. Turn of the pump.

# Move the handle to BACKWASH. Turn on pump again until water runs clear. do this about 3 - 4 times, going from backwash to rinse, Backwash & Rinse, to ensure a thorough backwash. # Turn of the motor and move multiport valve handle back to the FILTER position # Turn pump back on

# Add 1 lb D.E. powder per 10 sq ft of filter area. Check on the filter tank. ----
