Do you really have to take comforters to a cleaners, or can you just throw it in the washer?

Due to the size of a comforter, washing it in a normal home washer can be difficult. Squeesing the comforter into a tight space caan damage the "fluff". Frequest washing can also shrink a comforter. Still, Comforters can be washed in a machine. Laundromat washers tend to work well because they can hold a larger load and give the comforter space the breathe. Cold water is best for washing and little detergent should be used. In the case of a Down Comforter, extra caution should be taken and only use products specific for Down Comforters.
