I have always used 'polyurethane' to solidify my acrylic painting projects. My reasoning was to add a 'protective' covering and the wood pieces have lasted for several years and all were gifts to my grandchildren. corino

Yes, I've sealed many a canvas-acrylic-paint "oilcloth" rug with stock polyurethan. Marine poly provides a heavier, shinier layer that works well, although Marine will be more yellowing than the water-based.

Did it today since nobody knew. I used water based poylurethane and acrylic craft pain-metallic. Worked great, looks great. I'm doing a powder room remodel. Painted trim and base boards in acrylic colors that i mixed, but felt it need more. No problem. One thing i will say, watch how much paint you use. It depends on how much coverage you want. I only wanted a glazing. I also don't think you could get full coverage without multiple coats. Better to paint your color, then poly. I wanted a more antique look. Worked great. Good luck. I,m all about the projects. Big and small.

if you want it to be shiny and weather resistant, yes. It is a polyurethane stain or varnish specifically for acrylic paint that you need. You can buy this wherever you got your paint.
