How do you dry out butternut squash?

In American cuisine it not often peeled. It is split open length-wise, dressed with butter or oil, or even dry roasted, with or without seasoning which is often sweet such as sugar, maple syrup, honey. along with dry spices such as cinnamon, clove, nutmeg. When it is done roasting, the flesh is easily removed from the skin, if the squash is to be cubed, mashed or whipped. If not, it is then eaten much the same manner as a large baked potato is eaten "right out of" the skin. If you did wish to peel prior to cooking, I would use a strong, all metal hand peeler,or a small veg knife or contour capable mandolin slicer.

Do you peel squash when using it in soup?

I always peel squash before adding it to soup. Squash tend to disintegrate when cooked in soup and so it is probably best to liquidise the soup post-cooking. Liquidising skin of vegetables is not advisable because it will result in small harder bits in the soup (not nice!). An excellent way to add flavour to soup is to roast the squash in the oven first. Because of its tendancy to disintegrate I would suggest doing this with the skin on. Then before adding the roasted squash to the soup peel off the skin. A good recipe for squash soup is:- # Chop 1 onion and cook until softened in a little butter. # Peel and Dice 1 squash. Add to the pan and place a lid on the pan. Steam the squash for 20 minutes until slightly softened. # Add 1 can of sweetcorn kernels. (not creamed) Add 1500ml of Stock made with Swiss Bouillon powder. Cook for another 30 minutes. Blend. # Serve with a little milk. I always peel squash before adding it to soup. Squash tend to disintegrate when cooked in soup and so it is probably best to liquidise the soup post-cooking. How do you cook acorn squash?

The very best way to have it is roasted -- either cut in half and seeded, or sliced onto a baking sheet, brush lightly with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt/pepper and any of: curry, paprika, cumin, coriander, garlic, onion powder, etc... and bake at about 350 until it browns. You can also steam or or simmer it, then optionally pure into something like mashed potatoes. Add honey or maple syrup or sauteed onions. Good as baby food. It's a very flexible vegetable - you can even grill chunks of it, adding a drop of BBQ or chili sauce at the end.

Can you eat the skin of acorn squash?

What role does the turkey's skin play while it is roasting?

While roasting, the skin dries and seals moisture and any rendered fat inside the bird. This keeps the turkey from drying out. There are several techniques which improve the efficiency of this process, from brining to simple oil rubs.
