You need to have the trans computer checked for codes. There will be a code that will lead to what is causing the no shift.
You can not adjust the shift cable if you have having problems to where your exploer will not go into park then you will need to buy a new shift cable that is the only way to fix the problem
CAR WONT START Transmission may not shift. Check engine light could be on.
Loose hold down clamp or broken shift cable.
Disconnect Shift cable and see if u can shift. if not its the cable. just replaced mine the other day. They put the cable part that slides into the case almost directly below the ash tray, so all ash's go onto the cable. i added a "boot" to my new one. The above answer only applies if the shifter handle is hard to move. If the trans is not upshifting out of second, it could be a speed sensor. It is located inside the transmission, on top of the valve body. Remove trans oil pan, drop the valve body and the shift/control soleniod is on the body.
Check for a blown brake light fuse. Check for a broken or out of adjustment brake light switch.
Transmission is in limp mode and most likely it is the input or output sensor or a wiring problem to one of them.
They don't use linkage, they use a cable. The cable goes between the shift lever mechanism to the transmission.
More than likely, its your input and output speed sensor, If your speedo does not work, I can guarantee that is your problem..
