There is no such degree as "visual and performing arts;" rather, it is a broad label of the category. Performing arts is acting, voice, dance, etc. Visual arts include painting, sculpture, Photography, etc. When pursing any degree, it is a good idea to have a career path in mind. The focus of your degree will determine job opportunities. The Art Institute is a proprietary school and costly. Depending on the specific program, the curriculum is intense and is nearly all focused on the student's interest. Where as a liberal arts school might require a foreign language, math, science and other courses that do not appear to be related to the major field of study, a school like the Arts Institute generally does not. There will be some math and a couple of writing courses, but otherwise the studies are intensely related to the major field. It depends on what you want to do.
