Bumble bees are big fat critters. Some times they are mostly black. Carpenter bees look more like honey bees. The tell teal sign of carpenters is saw dust and holes in where you think they are living.
Could be a Carpenter Bee. They look like a bumble bee without the yellow band. Big and round, but harmless. They have no stinger.
Wondering the same thing. I think they look so much alike, body and face.
Yes. Yes. carpenter bees and bumble bees look similar, carpenter bees being a little bigger and bumbles being a little furrier. Carpenter bees will drill holes in wood, usually in doorways of barns or other out buildings to make homes for their babies. Bumblebees always make a home on the ground, usually in a nest of grass and clover, no wood drilling here. The other 2 types of plumber and heater I haven't heard of, maybe someone else will know about them.
Some animals that look alike include cheetahs and leopards, crocodiles and alligators, bees and wasps, and dolphins and porpoises. These animals may have similar physical features or coloration that make them appear similar at first glance.
It may be what we call a Newsbee. It depends on if they are trying to sting you or if they are more interested in wood. A newsbee will fly around you for a couple of seconds and then fly away. They are very fat bees that look almost like a honeybee but a little bigger. If that is what you have don't worry about them stinging you because they have no stinger. However if you have wood around your house including a deck, they will "drill" holes in them for a nest. I hope that this helps.

Male carpenter bees do not sting. Females however do. When identifying males and females you would probably look at the posterior area as a reference. If you see a stinger you are most likely dealing with a female. Female bees will only sting if extremely provoked. Do not attempt to put them in your hands and do not wave your hand around trying to swat them. This will make the bee angry and cause it to sting. Carpenter bees do not eat wood. They chew it with their extremely Strong jaw. This hole will become their nest. The bee will put a pollen ball in the middle for food and lay its eggs nearby. If you see yellowish brown stain near a carpenter bee hole it is the bee's feces. Bees will not do much damage to your house unless the problem is undetected and progressing fast. Numerous and prosperous hole will cause damage. Woodpeckers will try to peck at these holes to eat the eggs.

Male bees are the big, fuzzy bees without stingers.
