There is much spectulation on how Firestar will die, and on a fan chat, the Erins say that he will probably die in the last book of Omen of the Stars. But Brambleclaw will not succeed Firestar.

In the book series "Warriors" by Erin Hunter, Brambleclaw does not kill Firestar. Firestar dies in battle against the Dark Forest warriors, sacrificing himself to save his clan. Brambleclaw later becomes the leader of ThunderClan.
