The Caste System has nothing to do with Buddhism. Actually Buddhism was formed as a religion which does not believes in caste system. Lord Buddha spread the message to not believe in caste system, rituals etc. However, If you meant Hinduism, then the Caste system is a crucial to this religion. Because Hindus believe in reincarnation, they perform their "duties" (dharma) to be good fated (karma), which gets them higher in the caste system (varna). This all really happened earlier. Now Hinduism is also free from the discrimination of caste system.

Answer:

Some people think that the caste system is a part of Hinduism, many lower cast Hindus were being treated badly, so they conveted to Buddhism!

A Buddhist scholar may be able to give you some idea of what the Buddha's actual teachings on the caste system are. From my own personal perspective everything that happens to us is as a result of cause and effect. A wide range of religious systems exist but how we experience them is a result of what we did with our minds previously, what happens to us next will be the result of what we do with our minds now. How I see it is that we are making our own caste system, the more selfish I am the greater my suffering will be, the more compassionate I am the greater my happiness will be.

Hope this helps
