There is a case report of a 16-year old boy with "stuttering priapism" (i.e., extended period of waxing & waning erections) associated with WITHDRAWAL from extended release methylphenidate. There also seem to be a lot of informal reports in the blogosphere about sexual desire going through the roof in association with Concerta(probably the same phenomenon - what was embarrassing and troubling to the 16-year-old was probably more than welcome to the older set). I admit I researched this because I take Concerta and just recently seem to have been having similar weird symptoms around the time the medication is wearing off. Hope this helps!

∙ 12y agoYes it does, I am 19 and I have been taking concerta since I was about 13. It makes it harder to get and keep an erection. Also, now that I have been taking it for awhile, when I forget to take it I get uncontrollable erections. It is probably the main reason I got through school but It left me with a lot of psychological effects.

I have been on this combination for a year now (10 mg Lexapro, which I just upped to 20 mg) and 36 mg of Concerta. I can't see any large side effects to taking both together, except perhaps excess sweating. Take Concerta in the morning only, especially if you have trouble falling asleep at night.

i would not advise taking any concerta while taking lexapro. I am currently taking lexapro and have taken concerta about 7 times. Each time i took concerta i would hear many scary voices in my head. i looked up the psycotic effects of concerta and they said that a side effect of concerta is hearing voices if you are on an antidepressant

All have side effects ,usually get better after a couple of weeks as your body adjusts. Sexual side effects may not get better with time.That's one reason Wellbutrin is popular...doesn't have sexual side effects for most people

Stablon (Tianeptine) is the only antidepressant that does not have sexual side effects. although it is not an SSRI like most other antidepressants, it's not only an Anti Deprressant, but also is an Anti anxiety drug and A Mood enhancer, as well. With no sexual side effects. There are also SSRI's with a lower chance of sexual side effects - ex: Prozac is less likely than Paxil to have a sexual side effect.
