Actually, Genesis 2:1-3 mentions the seventh creative day. After creating for six days, God rested on the seventh. It was the original 'sabbath', God's Rest.
This seventh creative day gives us some insight into how long the preceding six may have been since Paul indicated that it was still in progress in his day( Hebrews 4:1-11) and still has not ended in ours.

Tradition states that the seventh day was Shabbat (Friday eve until Saturday eve). Therefore, the Creation began on the evening entering into Sunday, one week before the seventh day of Creation.
