Not very many. To an islander, they think of a Norfolk Pine, Cooks Pine or Japanese Matsu as pines. As a homeowner, I planted both Monterrey and Slash pines in my backyard on O`ahu, and they did quite well.
Until blown over by Hurricane Iselle there was a Cork Oak (Quercus suber) at Ainahou in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in a closed-to-public area. It is still partially rooted. It is one of about 1800 planted on the Island of Hawaii in the 1940's. There were 6 other Oaks planted on the Island around the same time but in very small numbers.
