A week ago went to purchase Highlander 2013 V6. The sale man told me that the newer highlander uses timing chain instead of timing belt. But I heard from other people that the 4 cylinder uses chain but the V6 uses belt. If it really matters, why don't ask Toyota?

That would depend on the engine choice of the 2007 Highlander. The 4 cylinder model has a maintenance-free timing chain while the V6 model has a timing belt. The redesigned 2008s all have a timing chain however.
