Homeopathic treatment is based on the idea that you can dilute a substance down to the point where any given volume of the resulting liquid is unlikely to contain even a single molecule of the actual substance. It is believed that the "essence" of the substance is all that remains, and that this is somehow affecting the body. In effect, you are drinking water with a little bit of alcohol and some completely undetectable "essence." If they weren't labeled, there would be no way to tell the difference between one and another. There is no good scientific evidence that there is any merit to this theory. This, of course, does not prevent people from spending hundreds of dollars on these "treatments." I suppose there may be some placebo effect. If you are the type of person who believes in supernatural and unprovable things, then you might believe homeopathic medications are somehow helpful. Incidentally, homeopathic medications are typically sold to you by the same person that tells you that you need them and which ones you need. It sounds like a conflict of interest to me. If I were you, I would sooner trust the allopathic practitioner, whose income is not affected by the number and type of medications he or she prescribes for you (at least in the US it would be illegal for a doctor to get a kick-back from the drug company for prescribing a certain drug -- I can't speak for other medical systems). Without personal profit, there is no motivation to give you something unless they believe it will help you. Personally, I would stay away from the person who is selling me a bottle of nothing for $10 and who personally profits from each bottle he or she can convince me that I need. Then again, that's just my opinion.
