Japan's constitution was drafted by the Americans during their occupation in the country and it does include due process provisions. However, Japan's Habeas Corpus rules have been criticized by the United Nations for limiting the grounds for obtaining a writ of Habeas Corpus to the absence of the right to place a person in custody and manifest denial of due process. Other conditions need to be applied as well.
