Medusa is an extremely powerful figure in the myths. she had an incredibly direct and unusual way of killing her enemies. she also had a unique hairstyle of serpents which is key in why she is still so popular today. Medusa had quite the temper and wanted revenge on the goddess Athena for cursing her into having her hair turned into snakes.
yes, she does continue to hold meaning. she represents evil and to some degree, a sense of power. some refer to Medusa while calling names or making fun of each other... "hey Medusa" on a bad hair day because of Medusa's curse from Athena, or "she's acting like Medusa" because of sharp movements (snakelike) and easy irritation and anger (from wanting revenge).
hope this helps!
