Omega-3 is one of the fatty acids found in flax seed oil. It is wonderful for your health as we need all of the fatty acids everyday. You might try all the fatty acids as found in a supplement Omega 3-6-9 and would give you flax, fish and borage oil all working together instead of just flax as your body needs all 3. Congrats on quitting smoking, that's the BEST thing you can do for your health.

Anything which makes you more healthy can make you feel a bit better. There are no vitamins or minerals which cure depression, but being healthier is always a good step. When you're depressed, you don't take good care of yourself, so taking a vitamin supplement can help you to feel somewhat better. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish and fish oil, and are helpful for the heart and circulatory system.

In fact research suggests that many people with Depression have too LITTLE Omega 3 in their body.

Consult a doctor about taking Omega 3 supplements.

However, the issue is muddled because there is also evidence to suggest that higher levels of Omega 6 fatty acid doesmake depressive symptoms worse.

There is also anecdotal (i.e. unproven) evidence that CLA (another fatty acid) might also make Depressive symptoms worse.
