Katniss is clearly in love with Peeta Melark. In the end of the first book, she says she is dreading the moment she has to let go of his hand. through-out all of the books, they comfort each other as the nightmears from The Hunger Games come and go. verying from following Rue in her mocking-jay form and watching Maggs transform into a man eating rodent, to Glimmer trying to tear Katniss and Peeta apart and The end of Cato's horrifying death by the mutts. In the very end of Mocking jay, Suzanne Collins explains how Peeta and Katniss are married and have two lovely children who share both Katniss's and Peeta's features. She explains how the children will never quit understand why their mother,Katniss, wakes screaming from nightmears that Peeta must calm her from.
