You can get a bare RPi without an SD card. Or pay slightly more for an RPi with an SD card. Or the RPi also comes as a kit. A beginner to RPi may find using a NOOBS SD is easiest, as it holds several Operating Systems - and you are given a choice on which OS you want to load.

Be sure to slide the back cover off and then to the next to the micro SD chip you should see a small piece of plastic sticking out the bottom. Mine for instance is the Verizon global SIM card for the BB 8830 and it was half red/black. I used a pencil eraser to grab onto the card after removing the battery.
