What effect would an unusually cloudy summer have on daytime temperatures?

During a cloudy summer day, UVB rays would be filtered resulting in a colder day.

What is the difference between uv-c uv-a and uv-b?

U.V can be separated according to its energy level and wavelength with UVa having the lowest energy and longest wavelength followed by UVb and ultimately UVc which has the shortest wavelength and highest energy level. You may be familiar with UVa and UVb as the part of the suns rays which cause tanning, aging, and skin cancer. The Sun also emits UVc the most powerful and dangerous type of U.V., fortunately for us most of this is stopped in the upper atmosphere by gasses like ozone.

What are some ways to protect yourself from solar radiation?

Sunglasses can protect eyes from which types of rays?

Sunglasses are meant to protect our eyes. For although we know how important the sun is for our well-being, we are now afraid of it. After all, she is said to be responsible for skin cancer – and it can be fatal. Since our eyes now seem to be even more sensitive than the skin, we use sunglasses whenever possible to protect the eyes from too much sunlight. But the eyes need sunlight – and so it can also have disadvantages when sunglasses are used. Sunglasses can therefore also be harmful.

What beneficial things do you get from the sun and what dangers does it pose?

Benefits First and foremost, the Sun is our primary source of energy for our planet, and thus the preserver of life here. Without it, crops to feed us and our livestock would not grow, we wouldn't get our daily dosage of Sun (yes, we actually need some sunlight to stay healthy), and we would have no day, only night. Another benefit is that the Sun offers a free, effective form of energy that we can harness to power our needs. Dangers The first solar threat that comes to mind is a supernova. The Sun is a star like any other, and will eventually die. Albeit in a few billion years, that is definitely a threat. A star going supernova in such proximity with us would be unavoidably fatal. Solar flares and solar winds are another very real danger of the Sun. However, our magnetic field does well to protect us from these electromagnetic deathblows. The solar flares can extend very far into space, and the deadly solar winds would easily ravage Earth if allowed through. However, because these are highly magnetized, they do not reach Earth. Finally, is the energy of the Sun itself. Infared radiation, UVA, and UVB rays are all part of sunlight. Thankfully, our ozone does its best to filter many of these dangerous rays out. Nonetheless, sunscreen is a must whenever outside for extended periods of time, to avoid deadly cancers and burns. The Sun is a double-edged sword, if you will. It provides us with one of the basic necessities of life, yet is almost like having an atomic bomb in our backyard. Still, we should be thankful the Sun has been as stable as it has.

Can you get a sun tan through a glass window?

Yes, you can still get a sun tan through a glass window because UVB rays can penetrate glass, although UVA rays (which cause aging and skin damage) are mostly blocked. However, it may take longer to tan through glass and the intensity of the tan may be less compared to direct sunlight exposure.

Can ultraviolet light pass through glass?

Ultraviolet light can pass through glass, but the amount and type of UV (eg UVA, UVB etc) transmitted depends on the type and thickness of the glass, any coatings and laminates.

Do all automobiles have UV protection on their windshield?

The best type of UV protection glass that is used for automobiles is called the laminated glass. It is made of 2 layers of glass and 1 plastic layer in the middle. It is able to filter out 95-99% of UV A and B rays. But It is usually only used in the front car window. Non-laminated glass is used for side and rear windows. They do filter most of UVB; however they allow up to 60-70% UVA to pass through. Tinting the non-laminated glass may further reduce 15-30% of UVA. You can do that with your non-laminated glass in local auto shop but just have to make sure it allow at least 70% minimum visible light transmittance through the windshield.

How long can yellow belly turtles go without uv light?

Any and ALL Aquatic turtles need a basking light for heat and a UVB light for shell growth and proper health. A UVB light also helps with digestion of food and fish which will help ensure the happy and healthy turtle. If you can not get a UVB light you have up to 2 weeks before they show any signs of health problems. with out a UVB light they can loose their appetite, have shell and growth deformities and ultimately kidney failure which will lead to a very slow and horrible death. they can not survive with out it and having them near a window will NOT be sufficient due to the fact that the glass filters all UV rays.

What is the difference of uvb reptile light compared to uvb light for psoriasis?

Reptile UVb light is broad spectrum, whilst therapeutic UVb lights are thin spectrum. Broad spectrum can cause more DNA damage and quicker burning.

What does the abbreviation UVB stand for?

What is ultra violet radiation given off by?

UV radiation is given off by the sun. UV radiation is a broad spectrum that consists of UVA, UVB and UVC radiation. The planets atmosphere protects us from harmful UVA and 90% UVB radiation, leaving unharmful UVC radiation to pass through the atmosphere. However, due to the increasing number of greenhouse gases, Ozone is being broken down a lot faster than it should, which in turn means that more harmful UV radiation can come through, which means that we are at a higher risk of cancer.
