Not sure what you mean by labor but... I can answer something else. Walking barefoot in the beach is good, the hot sand in your feet... etc. The thing is some beaches are very polluted so be sure to check where you are going! Also, in some beaches there is this type of fish that digs itself in the sand and if you step on it the animal will spike you and release some poison on you. In a rate from 1 to 10 the poison is like at 6 or 7, not sure. Still, enjoy the beach!
Sorry to say that no, walking does not induce labor. Walking can help get baby into a good position so that labor begins when your body and baby are ready. It can also help contractions (after labor begins) to get regular or to continue.
When walking with walking sticks and walking canes you gain balance and upper body exercise. I don't know if it will induce labor, but I have always walked with my wife to help her through her pregnancies. Poles, sticks, staffs or canes can increasingly help one walk safely as the baby continues to grow and will help one tone up for the birth.
No, only labor contractions will dilate the cervix. If the doctor sends you walking, it's really just buying time. Believe me, if walking did the trick - there would be a treadmill in every labor & delivery room.

i would recommend walking, and drinking plenty of water especially if you have edema of the legs and ankles, this will help circulate the water in your body and help flush it out. the weight from you abdomen while walking will help you to dilate faster
I had a friend of mine who walked everyday around the high school track for a really long time and she never went into labor. She tried everything, short of castor oil. She ended up having to have a c-section, but she did not say why she had to have one. I too walked miles when 4 days overdue and ended up being induced 4 days after that.
