YES THERE IS AN OIL PAN GASKET ON A 1978 Ford Truck. Open the drain plug, and drain the fluid, then remove all of the (many) 7/16 bolts that hold the pan up. Clean the old gasket material off the pan, and the bottom housing, apply a thin layer of gasket sealer (blue) to the transmission side to hold the gasket in place, make sure all holes for the bolts line up perfectly. Then replace pan, insert plug, and top off the fluid. While there you might take off the old filter and replace it as well. It is under the pan bolted to the the transmission.
