The Mercury Tracer heater core can be found behind the passenger side kick plate. The heater core can be removed by disconnecting the water supply lines and removing the retaining bolts.
The 1989 Mercury Tracer 1.6 liter engine cylinder head bolt torque specification is 135 pounds. The cylinder head bolts should be torqued in 45 pound intervals.
Remove the belt from your Mercury alternator. Remove the wiring harness from the alternator. Remove the retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new alternator.
If you remove the rear seat cushion you should see a cover with four bolts or screws, under that is the fuel pump.
Open the hood to the engine compartment. Remove the headlamp wiring harness. Remove the headlamp assembly retaining bolts. The headlamp will come out.

These specs are for stock-type bolts, if you are using aftermarket bolts you should follow their recommended torque specifications.
remove air breather hose to give room, then there a 3 bolts holding distributer on remove them. then you have acess to thermostat housing, there are 3 bolts houlding it on remove then put back together, this is for a 1.9 motor hope it helps.
Crawl down underneath and make sure all the trasmission mounting bolts are tight. Might be that something is out of alignment.

If the grass exits the right side of the deck, then the threads are normal right handed treads. If the grass exits the lefts side of the deck, then the bolts thread are left handed threads.
if memory serves me, you are going to have to remove the crank pulley to get the cover off without breaking it.
