A Mazda Dealer's Parts Department can cut a new key from the car's VIN number.
Sounds like you've got a key with a chip in it. Must be programmed and copied at a Mazda dealer. Not cheap, either.
immobilizer is in the key and pickup ring on the ignition lock
hi there if the timing belt goes on the mx5 it does not damage the the headand the bottem will free spin when you turn it over on the key
1. Insert an existing programmed working key into the ignition cylinder. 2. Turn ignition to the ON position for 5 seconds, then back to OFF position. 3. Remove the existing key and within 5 seconds insert new key and turn it to the ON positiion for 5 seconds. 4. Turn key OFF then back to ON. The key is now programmed. Start vehicle to test key.
The key itself cannot be programmed. The car can be programmed to accept the new key, however. This usually requires a technician at the dealer to do, but some vehicles can be programmed yourself IF you already have TWO keys programmed into the vehicle. The method can vary by car, but the owner's manual should contain the method.
How do I get a replacement key for 2000 mazda 626?
If you have another key for it, turn the original to the on position without starting the vehicle and leave it for 15-20 seconds. take the key out and immediately put in the unprogrammed key and do the same thing. This should program the key. If you do not have a key that is already programmed then you will have to take it to a dealer.
Take vehicle registration, and drivers license (showing same address / proving ownership) to a Mazda Dealership. The dealer can use the V.I.N. to cut a replacement key. Other options include buying a replacement ignition lock cylinder (with key) from dealer and replacing the ignition lock, however, the new key will not work on the doors/trunk.
An encryption key
From the 2000 Venture Owner's Manual To program the new key: 1. Insert the ignition key in the ignition and start the engine. If the engine will not start see your dealer for service. 2. After the engine has started, turn the key to OFF, and remove the key. 3. Insert the key to be programmed and turn it to RUN within 10 seconds of removing the previous key. 4. The SECURITY message will turn off once the key has been programmed. It may not be apparent that the SECURITY message went on due to how quickly the key is programmed. 5. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 if additional keys are to be programmed.
