The 2004 Ford Explorer does not have a dipstick to check your fluid level you must go underneath the vehicle and there is a torque screw in the side of the pan remove this screw if it drips it is full if it flows out it is too full or if it does not show any fluid coming out at all it is low if it is low then you fill it through the same hole if it is low and you are already at this point it may be a good idea to go ahead and remove the pan and change the filter and fluid at this point saves the Transmission from very costly repairs to rebuild that transmission is about 3,000 dollars so do yourself an favor and spend the 80 to 100 dollars to save that transmission
