Does a 2008 CRV lx have a timing belt or chain?
The 2002 and up CRV should have a timing chain.
The 1997-2001 Honda CRV with the 2.0L 4 cylinder uses a timing belt. 2002-up use a chain. The water pump is also driven by the cam belt. To save yourself money later on, replace the water pump at the same time as you replace the belt. The belt MUST be replaced at 105,000 miles or 10 years. Failure to replace the belt may result in severe engine damage as this is an interference engine.
Check your service book that came with the car and look through all the scheduled services till you find reference to changing the timing belt and that will tell you what kms you should change it at. Most cars have the timing belt changed every 100000km but I think the CRV 2001 I had it was 150000km.
The price will vary depending upon what shop you go to. A decent shop who specializes in work on Hondas, as of 2012, will probably charge around $500 for the timing belt, water pump and tensioners. If just the timing belt alone it should be around $80 less. If someone is telling you more you should shop around.
