I was looking at the 2011 Ford Focus owners manual ( with the 2.0 liter four
cylinder gasoline engine )
It shows that you don't have to use synthetic or semi-synthetic engine oil
but you can if you want to
The engine oil is ( 5W-20 ) certified for gasoline engines , as long as the oil
meets Ford specification ( WSS-M2C930-A ) like the Motorcraft brand does
