The 2.0 Liter 4 cylinder has a belt that must be replaced every 60,000 miles. The 2.8 Liter V6 has cam gears with no chain.
you will have to take off the water pump and lossen the oil pan to get to the crank and timing gears. and some other parts to have clearance for the timing chain cover to be removed
it has a chain
you have to take off the timing chain cover and replace the seal in the timing chain cover as welll youll need the oil pan seal
It is probably either the spark control box which is on fender or firewall or it could be the ignition module under the distributer cap. DID YOU GET THE TIMING MARKS ON GEAR SET LINED UP?
Need to know the engine number as in sr20e or ga16de to help you.
10 degrees BTDC ( unless engine decal shows different )
No, from what I know for sure, Pre-85 22r blocks have a dual timing chain which is stronger and lasts longer. Also not 100% sure but I read there is a difference in height of the blocks as well. Pre-85 block with dual timing chain is needed to do a 22r/20r hybrid.
I would take a guess that you slipped a tooth on the timing chain. All it takes is one tooth! Most of the cars built by Ford, Dodge and GM start their life with a solid crankshaft timing gear and an aluminum cam gear that is coated with a neoprene. (The whole gear is made of aluminum, but the ring gear that the chain rides on is actually made of neoprene.) After about 20,000 miles or so, the gear needs to be replaced because the neoprene wears at a considerable rate. At around 30-40 thousand miles, the gear will become so worn that there is an inch or two (side to side) play in the chain and it will seem as though the "timing advance module" will not compensate. This is normally felt at low RPM's. When the engine is running at a high RPM, the chain becomes tight, and you don't notice the slip. Eventually, the gear will loose a tooth or even 3 or 4 all at once, and the car will not start. After market replacement sets are all steel. No plastic or neoprene.
I am going to assume you mean timing belt. The Fiero does not come with a belt If the chain fails, there is usually no internal damage other than the chain, but the engine must be removed to service, unless you like doing it the hard way.
what is the timing to be set on a 85 town car with a 302 with tb injetion
The timing for a 1985 Chevy 2.8 V6 is 100 BTDC.
a stock 85 on the street can easily hit 80 in 6th gear...
