Technically, citizens of New Zealand do not need visas to enter the US for short (90 days or less) stays. They do, however, need to be authorized through the electronic system for travel authorization, which in practice is pretty much the same thing but with less actual paper involved.
Your best bet is to contact the US embassy or consulate in your home country to see if the criminal convictions will be a barrier to your obtaining this authorization or not.
