40 watts is 40 watts, that is what you are paying for. However, an incandescent bulb uses the 40 watts to make light and heat. The compact bulbs make more light and less heat for the same wattage. To actually save, choose a lower wattage that will give acceptable light levels.

The link shown below to Wikipedia explains pretty well how a compact fluorescent lamp works.

A compact fluorescent lamp is a miniaturized conventional fluorescent tubepackaged with an integral ballast on a standard light bulb base so it canbe installed into most types of lighting fixture. For more information click on the Related Link and the Related Questions below.

To answer this question the voltage has to be given. I = W/E. Amps = Watts/Voltage.

Compact Fluorescent Lamp

A compact fluorescent lamp (CFL), also called compact fluorescent light, energy-saving light, and compact fluorescent tube, is a fluorescent lamp designed to replace an incandescent lamp; some types fit into light fixtures formerly used for incandescent lamps. The lamps use a tube which is curved or folded to fit into the space of an incandescent bulb, and a compact electronic ballast in the base of the lamp.

The prices for compact fluorescent lamps vary in price depending on size, where you buy them, and what materials they are made of.

a compact electronic ballast in the base of the lamp

Compact or Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.

Yes, you can you use compact fluorescent bulbs in a garage door opener's lamp holder.

"Compact fluorescent lamps" (or, more commonly CFLs) sold direct to consumers for installation in a standard screw-in socket have an integral ballast built into the base. The ballast converts and controls the line voltage from the socket to properly drive the fluorescent lamp. Ballasts are generally fairly complex circuitry. All fluorescent lamps require a ballast. However, most lamps used commercially ("ordinary fluorescent lamps") do not have the ballasts built into them; rather, the ballasts are hidden somewhere in the fixture.

A compact fluorescent light (CFL) is a fluorescent light that is manufactured in the approximate size and shape of a standard incandescent lamp. It's got an electronic ballast (unlike the standard fluorescent lamp tube which uses a heavy wire wound ballast), and it screws into a socket and performs on the standard line voltage like that aforementioned incandescent lamp. The light emitting diode (LED) is a solid state device that converts electricity into light without heating a filament like the incandescent lamp, or ionizing a gas like the fluorescent light does.

220 lumens is equal to a tungsten incandescent light bulb of 15 watts. Halogen lamp 20 watts. Fluorescent lamp 60 watts. LED lamp 60 watts. high pressure sodium vapour lamp 117 watts. Mercury vapour lamp 50 watts or 17.32 candle power

11W is not a standard incandescent lamp. Assuming you meant to ask about an 11W CFL (equivalent to a 40W incandescent), the lumen output will be around 650. (CFL means Compact Fluorescent Lamp)

the most economical is the incandescent bulb because the power of bulb is low only while the fluorescent lamp is low and additional the power of ballast from 10%-20% power consumed.but the fluorescent lamp is 5 times brightly the incandescent bulb.

A ballast is an electrical component used with a fluorescent bulb (or mercury vapor lamp or arc lamp) to conduct electricity at each end of the tube. Compact fluorescent light bulbs are dependent on ballast because they use a gas to create light. when the gas is excited by electricity, it emits invisible ultraviolet light that hits the white coating inside the fluorescent bulb. The coating changes the ultraviolet light into light you can see.

Yes, lamp is to fluorescent

Yes, if it fits the socket and the light fitting, or lamp fixture, with its cover or shade. You will not be able to dim the compact fluorescent as you did the incandescent (unless you have a really fancy dimmer).

Florescent light-bulbs CFL Compact Fluorescent Lamp

A fluorescent lamp is a glass tube with a phosphorous coating on the interior surface which is electrochemically excited by passing current between electrodes.Perhaps you are asking about fluorescent lamp. This is an electrical device that uses a fluorescent bulb to give off light. The bulb is a recent invention designed to give energy savings in the residential area. The fluorescent bulb used to be used exclusively in industrial applications, but the new bulb is small and compact enough to be used in a home lamp.

I get mine at Stator Bros. because they sometimes have them on sale for as little as 50 cents each.

A Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) is type of energy-saving bulb made from a small glass tube which is filled with mercury vapour. It has a phosphorescent coating on the inside of the tube which glows when electricity is passed through the mercury vapour causing it to emit ultraviolet light. This is the same mechanism as a standard fluorescent tube light, the only difference in a CFL is that it has a smaller size and is bent so that it can be used in standard light fittings.
