Yes! The HTC Droid Eris has a great internet system! It works quickly and very responsivly. It even has a voice search feature, so you could click the voice button, and say "Puppy Dog" and it would type for you "Puppy Dog" and automaticly search it! It is (in my opinion) the best phone avalible on the Verizon Wireless market! :D

According to Computer World, the Motorola Droid Pro is $179.99, and that is after a rebate of $100 with a two year activation and a data plan. You can add a 3G tethering plan for $20 extra per month.
GMail is always free, including on Droid phones. You still must subscribe to a data plan to efficiently use web applications like GMail.
It does not require one. You can always get it though. With Verizon, it's around $30 a month. Only smartphones and Blackberrys require a data plan.
