Sadly, with the manufacturing technology eventually becoming affordable, counterfeiters manage to gimmick a lot of the "secret signatures" of watchmakers.
The Rolex symbol carved in the sapphire crystal can probably be counterfeited nowadays, so it makes it harder to tell a fake from a genuine Rolex.
The hardest thing to counterfeit would be the performance of the movement, so if you have a watch timer, you can easily see if the movement performs well or not. A Chinese movement will typically show a substantial variation between different positions. A genuine Rolex will perform consistently across all positions.
There are a number of signs that a Rolex might be fake. If the price is very cheap then it is likely to be fake. One can also look for the magnification of the date on the watch which is 2.5 x on a real Rolex and often only 1.5 x on a fake Rolex. One can also tell by dipping the watch in water as all Rolex watches are water tight. If there is any leak inside the watch it is fake.
Uh, exactly like a real Rolex LOL.
A ake rolex has a backwards r on the back
Rolex does not make fake watches but other companies do make them. Some look very real ,so check with a reputable jeweler before you buy one.
To the best of my knowledge( and its not much) a real Rolex has a "sweep movement" where the 2nd and moves smoothly as opposed to a fake Rolex that may have a "quartz" movement-the 2nd had pauses briefly
In rome - they do it all the time but it is illegal, so dont do it !
there use to be a time when you can just look at a fake Rolex and determine that it is fake, but in recent years the quality of fake watches has gone up considerably? But here are some things to look for. # 98% of all Rolex watches sold are mechanical movements, so if the Rolex you have has a quartz movement and the second hand is ticking away rather than moving gradually across the dial then you have a fake. # Most Rolex watches are heavy. If yours is light and comparable to the weight of a quartz watch then you probably have a fake. # Take a look at back of the case and on the bracelet itself. The word Rolex should be stamped on both. If not then you have a fake. # Modern Rolex watches are made using Sapphire crystals and are cold to the touch. Much older Rolex watches were not so if the watch you have looks new but doesn't have a sapphire crystal then it is probably fake. Look at the crystal from the side of the watch. The crystal will usually be raised and you can see a prism effect. If you see the prism effect then it is a sapphire crystal.

It would not be illegal to buy it, but if you represent it as a real Rolex when you sell it you will be violating international copyright laws as well as the Hobby Protection Act. No, but it is illegal to be the one selling a fake rolex or fake anything.
you can tell a genuine rolex simply by the paperwork and registration card that will come with any quality watch....it only takes a phone call owning a fake or a stolen rolex will be useless as you can never get it serviced or legitimatly repaired.
Its fake glass.
