It warms the coolant. The block heater screws into the side of the block right above the oil filter. It takes a 17 mm hex socket to remove the factory brass " plug ". This is not a freeze plug but a threaded hole just for this application. It takes a 24 mm regular socket to install the gm oem heater. If you have a 4x4 it is easier to drop the front drive shaft out of the way to install the heater. The drive shaft uses 11mm bolts. You will loose about 2 gallons of dex cool when you do this job if you don't drain the system before hand. '
Google Honda pilot block heater. There is a parts dealer that includes installation instructions showing where the plug is to drain the coolant. This is where the block heater screws in, replacing the bolt.
The 2004 VW Jetta block heater can be found on the right hand side of the engine block. You can follow the block heater cord directly to the block heater.

I sure sounds like a coolant leak at the block heater plate. If you are looking up at the engine and it is about 3" left of the oil filter that's what is it. In extremely cold climates this port is were the block heater attaches, in most places it is just a bolted on plate with an RTV silicon material for gasketing. I believe the heater core in that vehicle is located behind the dashboard.

First off, the block heater is an option, yours might not even have one. My 2002 Chevy had a block heater, and the chord was right next to the battery.
The heater core of a 2004 Chevy Tahoe is used to provide a source of heat to the cabin. When the heater is turned on, air is blown across the heater core which is constantly supplied with hot coolant from the engine.
It is on the drivers side of the block.
One reason a 2004 Monte Carlo heater motor blower may not work is low coolant. You can check the coolant level after the car has been turned off.
The rear cabin heater uses coolant lines that run to a heat exchanger in the rear.
check your coolant level. if its full, might be a plugged heater core.
