The watt is a unit of power and power is consumed/dissipated instantaneously and continuously. In other words the watts are used now.

Power consumed over a period of time is energy. The most common unit of energy used in the electrical field is the kilowatt-hour. But one could also use a unit of watt-year (8.76 kilowatt-hours) or watt-day (0.024 kilowatt-hours) if one wanted to.

How many lumens does a 400w hps?

A lamp designed for 120 v takes 5 amps, one intended for 240 v takes 2½ amps. Voltage x current gives the watts.

How much does it cost to run a 75 watt CFL bulb?

the rule is.... run 100 watts 24/7 for 100.00/year. Your cfl will cost apx.75/year. However, while your cfl only uses 75 watts it is equivalent to apx 350 watts and produces a broad variety of colors in the spectrum making it great for growing!

How many amps in a 40 watt light bulb?

A lumen is the perceived intensity of the light, as seen by the human eye. The lumen value is largely determined by the the nature of the light, i.e. the sum of the different wavelengths of the light being transmitted by the particular bulb type. The standard tungsten wire-filament ('incandescent') bulb radiates a different type of light to a flourescentlight.* a 230 V, 40 watt incandescent bulb produces a light (quality) of about 400-500 lumens,* a standard 230 V flourescent lamp of only 7 watts will produce exactly the same value of lumens, i.e. 400-500 lumens. * the cool white XLamp XP-G 3.5 V LED lamp of only 3 watts will produce a similar value of lumens, i.e. 350 lumens. And is safer for the workers that make them and better for the environment. It is currently more expensive, but prices have been dropping about 20% per year. Therefore LED light bulbs convert electricity into light more efficiently than incandescent or florescent light bulbs. * For more information, See Related links below this box

How much does it cost to run a 100 watt light bulb per hour?

If you run a 100 watt bulb for 10 hours you would 1 kilowatt hour (kWh). The cost of electricity varies by location usually. Mine even has a sliding scale based on the usage and goes from $.08 to $0.25 per kWh. Look at your electric bill to see if it shows a rate per kWh. If it does not, divide the dollar amount of your bill by the total kWh used to get a rate per kWh. That will be the cost to run a 100 watt bulb for 10 hours. Rather than calculating KWh's, and getting out your power bill or calling the Public Service Commission - there's a 'rule of thumb' (2007 numbers) - a 100 Watt light bulb costs about 100 dollars per year if left on continuously....a typical 1200 watt heater will cost you 100/month if used heavy in the winter months.... (takes into account increased startup current, on/off time(duty cycle) and left set at reasonably warm temp day/night). simple a dollar/watt/year!... 100W - $100/year, 200W - $200/year, 1200W=$1200/year

What does the wattage of a bulb indicate?

The power rating of light bulbs tells how much electric energy in watts the bulb consumes when burning. As an aside, a rule of thumb for estimating how much you are paying to burn a light bulb for a year, the number of watts equals the number of dollars. So if you burn a 40 watt bulb for a year it costs about $40. If only at night cut that in half and say it costs $20. If you burn 5 of the bulbs all year it's $200
