Typically it is permanent with a few exceptions, depending on what state you reside in or were charged and convicted in. For example most states will remove any record charged before your 18 - 21 birthday. Also I recommend you look up your states Bureau of Investigations site and research what documents are needed to get the ball rolling on dismissal if you fall under any of the exemption rules. Another good place to contact is your local District Attorneys office for information.

If you filed March 11, 1997 it will stay on reports for 10 years so it should come off march 12, 2007. Chapter 7 bankruptcies stay on report for 10 years. Chapter 13 stay for 7 years on experian and transunion. On equifax they stay for 10 years!
