Craftsman riding mowers and also the 33" wide cut walk behind mower are all made by MTD. Most of the regular push and self propelled model Craftsman mowers are made by AYP. However Craftsman does have one 21" cut self propelled model that is made by MTD and it looks identical to the Troy-Bilt and Bolens models sold at Lowes and the Garden-Way model sold at Sams Club.

∙ 13y agoA blade for a walk behind mower with a 3/8" hole would probably work. If the blade has a "bow-tie" hole, it will not. The rider blades used for the last few years will not fit because the Craftsman (AYP) has a 5-pointed star and the MTD has a 6-pointed star.

They are standard thread. Counter-clockwise to loosen.

Looking at your blade from under the mower view. If it turns clockwise it will have reverse threads. If the blade rotates counter clockwise it will have the most common thread which tightens with your wrench in a clockwise direction.

How do you change the blades on an mtd riding mower?
It will depend on what kind of mtd mower you got but generally there is a bolt in the center of the blade that you take off and the blade will come right off. It is alot easier to take it off with an impact but if you dont have and impact you will have to put something to hold the blade and break lose that bolt and make sure when you put it together the blades go back on the same way and if the blades have any kind of bracket on it you put those back on the same way as well.
