Yes. An inmate can spend years in the general population before "PC'ing Up" if they want. Or, they may do it right away. A lot of guys try to make it in general pop before they go PC because of the stigma about it. However, I highly suggest it to inmates with certain types of offenses (sexual offenses with children) for their own safety. In fact, sometimes custody officers will designate an inmate into protective custody against his wishes, if he is in imminent danger. However, custody will not grant protective custody to affiliated gang members. You must drop out of the gang and "debreif" with custody before you will be granted PC status.

This milestone event occured in the Wartburg - a fortified castle where Luther was held for a time ( accounts vary, but maybe 2 years) in protective custody, strictly speaking, he was not a political prisoner.

Protective custody in San Quentin Prison is designed to keep inmates safe from potential harm, often due to threats from other prisoners. Inmates in protective custody are typically isolated from the general population and may experience limited access to certain programs and activities. Conditions can be stark, with a focus on security over rehabilitation, and inmates may spend significant time in their cells. The environment can be tense, as individuals face the psychological challenges of isolation while navigating their safety concerns.

== == you report that to child protective services. if there is a visible bruise they will shelter the child with you the non custodial parent. that would be the time to petition family court for custody of the child because child protective services has already taken the child from him,it would be more likely that you will get it .
