Yes. We have eight red-eared sliders....about five of them are at least the size of a dinner plate although I've never really measured.

The way to take care of a baby slider is u have 2 go 2 a pet store and ask 4 repto min its the smallest bottle feed the turtle about 3 or 4 it depends thoe..... If it eats half of them then that's how many they are feeden..........then as they grow get the bigger bottles till they are the size of the plate. About the size of a dinner plate.
A dinner plate is called a dinner plate because it is a plate which you eat your dinner off of, hence the expression "dinner plate".
If the tank is not big enough for the turtle it will start to smell much quicker. I currently have a slider about the size of a half dollar in a ten gallon aquarium. He has a terrarium water filter that stays running. They are available for under $20. Mine was $9 at my local pet store. The filter really helps out. My other slider kept needing to be upgraded to larger tanks. When he got to be the size of a pie plate, we had to make a pond for him outside. Sliders do get to be large (dinner plate size and up) and if you do not have the proper size home and filtration for them, smell will become an issue.
The use of a show - plate during dinner is simply to dress up the dinner table and make things look more fancy. The show plate goes under the main dinner plate.
