not really. snails use more touch to find their way around. their eyes aren't very good, they just detect shade and not shade. then the snails tend to stay away from light too, so a bit of light could be there, but not too much.
I am sure they sleep, because most living things need sleep to survive (including plants!). I take care of Garden Snails, and I find that they slip into their little shells and remain like that until they are awoken with a shower of water, and thinking that it is rain, they slither out of their shells and look around for food, which is when I give them a piece of lettuce. So they do sleep, inside their shells.
