I too had this deilema recently. My AKC registered boxer decided to have puppes with my NKC registered boxer. So, i talked to my vet and he said that you can double register the AKC momma as NKC too. So i called and talked to the NKC people and they said to send a copy of the registration papers (from the AKC) and 2 pictures of the dog and a check for $18.00.

If your dog is AKC registered then only breed with a AKC dog make sure the other dog is healthy and also has a good strong bloodline,ask for proof of papers and vet visits.

Is the American kennel club a puppy mill?
No. The American Kennel Club (AKC) is a registry of purebred dog pedigrees in the United States (in addition to promoting events, like dog shows, for purebred dogs, but that's irrelevant to the question). To register with the AKC, an owner needs to show the dog's parents were registered as a purebred breed (recognized by the AKC). The AKC isn't a puppy mill because it is not involved at all with the actual breeding of dogs. Note that there has been some criticism of the AKC, as a registered dog is no sign whatsoever of dog health or any sort of strong bloodline. AKC registered dogs often still possess genetic diseases since the AKC does not required any sort of health screening for a dog to be registered. Therefore puppy mill dogs can often still be registered with the AKC, and "fool" uninformed consumers. The AKC is not a puppy mill itself, but note that a piece of paper signifying a dog is registered with the AKC is not a sign the dog didn't originally come from a puppy mill.
