Best Answer

yes . There is more vacuum created due to clogged air filter .Clogged air filters make the engine work harder to suck the air they need .So,BSFC will get lower if the air filter gets clogged.

What Optimum RPM is best for fuel economy?

Through experience and many questions to professors, mostly mechanical engineering professors. I have come up with, it does vary a suprising amount. Brake specific Fuel Consumption, or BSFC, is usually where the engine is the most efficient and generally where the engine uses the fuel to it's best extent. There are many variables, These may help. tire size (this doesn't mean go and bolt up big 'rap-star' wheels, a civic will lose efficiency, and often times acceleration. just doesnt have the power.) Low restriction exhausts (an engine in most cases will need some back pressure in your exhaust to work properly) Low restriction intakes (smoothing out the air flow in to the engine with a good air filter, if the filter is dirty your efficiency can drop like a brick.) A manual transmission atleast usually, loses less of the power to the wheels. (some new variable transmissions are suprisingly effective) Wieght, not only extra junk in the trunk, or on your gut. 100lbs = 1% less fuelefficient and it adds up. moving weight, wheels? rotating mass takes some effort on the engine's part to roll. pistons, connecting rods, and crankshaft? they all absorb engine power. (you can only lighten these so much before failure under normal conditions) Fuel type, Diesel has more energy than petrol. for the same work diesels will use less fuel in most situations. Petrol, gasoline, at the pump do you buy the cheapest? the most expensive? you need to know what your car takes for it to run it's best, 85.5 will make a corvette less powerful and less efficient, the corvette's high pressure engine needs a fuel that can take that pressure with out detonating. however a old Honda civic wont run very well on 93, that lower pressured engine won't burn that fuel to it's full potential, causing you to burn more fuel to do the same work. smooth low slung cars with very little frontal area, the bit of real estate of the car that is exposed when you look dead on at it, and a smooth rounded tail end, many times diffused and smoothed air flow underneath the vehicle will help a great deal, take a look under the prius sometime.

What was the fuel consumption of the Hindenburg?

Hindenburg was equipped with 4 x Daimpler-Benz 16-cylinder diesel engines. Together, they developed 4 x 850 (3,400) horsepower for continuous cruising. Approximately, they consumed 550 kg of crude oil per every hour of work. So, the Brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) of each Hindenburg's engine was 0.16 kg/(HP h). Typically, Hindenburg was capable to complete an Atlantic crossing (from Frankfurt to New York) in 60 hours and consume only 32,640 kg of diesel fuel. On her last voyage, Hindenburg completed the Atlantic crossing in 77 hours due to the fact that headwind was very strong and burned 42 tonnes of crude oil. In comparison with modern large aeroplanes, which consumed more than 120 tonnes of cerosine in one single transatlantic voyage, that was highly eficient.

Why cant I get enough fuel to keep it running1990 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 I-6?

You probably have a plugged fuel pump or filter, or a possible bad pressure regulator that is located on your fuel rail. I found this info in another Awsome Furom. I hope it helps you out. INJECTORS The following is a list of the injectors used on the 4.0L since 1987 along with their rated static flow: Model Year Part Number Color Fuel Pressure Static Flow 1987-1990 53003956 Black 39psi 18.6lb/hr 1991-1993 33007127 Brown 39psi 21.0lb/hr 1994-1995 53030343 Tan 39psi 21.0lb/hr 1996-1999 53030778 Grey 49psi 23.2lb/hr 1999-2006 04854181 Blue Tip 49psi 22.5lb/hr The injector flow rate varies as the square root of the pressure drop across the injector. The stock '91-'95 4.0 injectors are rated at 22lb/hr @ 43psi fuel pressure, so at 39psi they flow ( sq. rt.(39/43) x 22.0 = 21.0 ). For stock/modified 4.0 engines or stroker build-ups the following injectors can be installed. The flow rates are: Ford Motorsport 19.0lb/hr @ 39psi (Part no. FMS-M9593-C302) Ford Motorsport 24.0lb/hr @ 39psi (Part no. FMS-M9593-A302) Ford Motorsport 30.0lb/hr @ 39psi (Part no. FMS-M9593-B302) Chevy LT1 24.0lb/hr @ 43.5psi (Part no. 17124248) Chevy LT4 28.0lb/hr @ 43.5psi (Part no. 17124251) Accel 19.2lb/hr @ 44.1psi (ACC-150119) Accel 21.1lb/hr @ 44.1psi (ACC-150121) Accel 24.4lb/hr @ 44.1psi (ACC-150124) Accel 25.6lb/hr @ 44.1psi (ACC-150126) Accel 29.4lb/hr @ 44.1psi (ACC-150130) The '95 Jeep 5.2 ZJ/Dodge 5.9 injectors (Part no. 53030262) are rated to flow 24.6lb/hr at 39psi. The selection of injector size will depend on the estimated horsepower output, brake specific fuel consumption BSFC (assume 0.5), no. of cylinders, and the injector duty cycle (assume 80% or 0.8). The formula is: Injector size (lb/hr) = (horsepower x 0.5)/(no.of cylinders x 0.8)
