Not for very long. That is why it is important to take your antibiotic as prescribed, even if you think that the infection has gone away.

Continuing to take the antibiotic for the full time prescribed keeps the infection from flaring up again; you think it's completely gone, but not quite.

Can taking an antibiotic cause a urinary tract infection in a child?

Generally not - because the antibiotic would be 'dismantling' the microbes causing the UTI (urinary tract infection). However, an antibiotic may cause vulvar irritation that may lead to symptoms of itiching and pain on urination - these symptoms may be mitigated by a specific cream. If the UTI is caused by a virus, then no antibiotic will solve the problem - the infection will in this case have to work its way out.

You ve taken 2 erythromycin for tooth infection face still swollen?

Two erythromycin are not typically sufficient to knock down a dental infection. A course of several days is usually prescribed. Unless you are allergic to penicillin and clyndamycin, erythromycin is not the most effective antibiotic to take for dental infection. This is important: Taking a shorter course of antibiotics than recommended is very dangerous. It is possible to develop something called a "super infection". This is where the most resistant bacteria survive and cause a rebound of the original infection. Only this time, the antibiotic is no longer effective in fighting the infection. Take a complete regimen of a properly prescribed antibiotic even if you start to feel better before all the antibiotic is gone.

Why must you finish course of antibiotic explain?

Many infections are difficult to get rid of, because they are resistant or they can hide in your system. That is why doctors say that even if you seem to be feeling better, finish the medication. If you stop taking your medicine too soon, you may not have really killed the infection and it will just return, forcing you to start the process all over again.

What would happen if you didn't finish a course of antibiotics?

If you stop taking your antibiotic before you complete the course any surviving bacteria developes an immunity to that antibiotic. You must then take a different, usually stronger antibiotic to kill the infection. Once that happens that particular antibiotic usually will not work for any bacterial infection you may get.
