How can sinus infections affect hearing?

Your sinuses and your ear canals are connected. If you have a bad sinus infection and is not treated properly, you can easily get an ear infection. It also could just plug up your ear canals (by plug up i generally mean that the ear canal may become inflamed and therefore smaller), and it could make it somewhat harder to hear. But mostly it would be the ear infection that would be most likely.

How can infections affect hearing?

Often there will be a temporary hearing loss during an ear infection which clears up when the infection is cured; this hearing loss is caused by a temporary accumulation of fluid and particles and pressure in the ear which prevents the structures of the middle ear and inner ear from functioning properly. In a severe infection, disease organisms such as viruses and bacteria destroy tissue in your body. In the case of an infection in your throat or your intestines, your body can quickly regrow the damaged tissue. If tissue in the ear is destroyed, the body has no mechanism for replacing it; the damage is permanent.

What part of the ear will be infected if an infection of the throat spreads to the ear?

I would imagine the whole ear, and if an infection spreads from the throat to the ear, then you should really get that checked.
