No Antivirus is able to block a virus all the time, as there are many different ones.
I've used avast! Free Antivirus, Malwarebytes' (Free) Anti Malware and Spybot: Search and Destroy for a long time now.
Install those 3 programs and you shouldn't have much virus trouble. If you get a virus, Malwarebytes' can usually remove it easily, and Spybot will notify you that there's a threat on your computer, depending on the infection.

∙ 12y agoNo. Even though most of the modern antivirus software is able to detect almost all viruses, you still can't be safe. For instance, when you install a program, the computer asks for your confirmation. If you say yes to this (which everyone does), you'll allow it through the firewall, and then it can do whatever it wants on your computer. But as long as you don't open suspicious mails, download software you don't know or open links from strangers, I'm sure you won't get any viruses :)
