If you want to have cable or phone modem (internet, in order to use wireless internet you still need a provider) you need to have a contract with one of internet providers. The only exception is mobile phones with internet feature activated (I'm not sure if you can connect a wireless router to it).

How can I get wireless internet in my condo for my renters to use?
For a small condo, find a broadband provider. Cable would be best, DSL if availble. Then using a wireless router from any retail type store-walmart target, best buy etc. Your connect the modem to the providers connection, the router to the modem. The router will need to be connected to a computer for instalation--helps if you have someone who know networking, but the manual will provide instructions. Then disconncet the computer, and the wireless router will be visible to anyone with a wifi card in their computer. They will need the passwords that you provide at setup..
