There is no cure for Lupus. It can only be treated. The most popular treatments are anti-inflammatories. Plaquenil and Prednisone are popular drugs used to treat Lupus. In some cases immunosupressant drugs are needed to suppress the immune system. There are two goals in the treatment of lupus. The first is to provide relief for the symptoms. The second is to prevent or minimize permanent damage. NSAIDS or non-steroidal anti-inflammatories are available over the counter. Plaquenil or hydroxychloroquine (an anti-malarial) is a maintenance medication that works to prevent communication in the immune cells and thus prevent them from attacking self. Prednisone is a steroid that suppressed the entire immune system without discretion. Long term side effects include osteoporosis, osteonecrosis, Diabetes, cataracts and atherosclerosis. Short term use is one of the most efficient ways to bring a flare under control. Other chemotherapy immunosuppressives may be used like methotrexate, cytoxan, azathioprine, and mycophenoloate mofetil (Cellcept). Current clinical trials on lymphostat B, a monoclonal antibody, are very promising and some are in their fifth year. However, November 20, 1958 was the last time a new medication was approved specifically for the treatment of lupus.
unfortunately the answer is quite simple. The cause of lupus still isn't know, so a cure cannot be found. Medication for lupus sufferers is to manage the symptoms and to hopefully prevent further damaged caused by inflammation for example. remain hopeful that there will be, if not a cure, more accessible and faster acting alleviating medications :)
Although there is no current cure for Lupus - the symptoms can be managed with medication. Sufferers can live a perfectly normal life. I personally know a lady with the condition - who is in her sixties.
really?
Idiopathic means they do not know what caused it. In that sense all lupus except drug induced or lupus caused by inhaling silica, is idiopathic because we do not know what causes it.
The full cause of lupus is not fully known. Scientists can't cure something when they don't know with certainty what causes it. Lupus is an extremely complex autoimmune disease, affecting each person differently. The immune system is amazingly complex and it is a haywire immune system that causes lupus. Some of the biologic medications and those in clinical trials try to target specific places along the entire immune reaction where the system goes haywire. We are closer, but not there yet.
I have 2009 Corolla LE & mine does this sometimes as well. Not everytime I stop, but a few times a week. The shuddering is annoying. Anyone that works as a Toyota technician know what this is & the cure?
Lupus anticoagulant and other clotting disorders occur in about 20% of lupus patients. These can develop at any age.
