IMPROVED:

PLEASE note that PCI and PCI-Express are NOT the same thing, though similar. There are a few PCI cards with HDMI but they are hard to find, unpopular, and peform very poorly.

Almost all HDMI cards are PCI-Express, and some are AGP.

PCI was largely discontinued around 2000 for graphics, favoring AGP. AGP was discontinued for PCi-Express.

OLD:

Yes, many manufacturers make PCI cards with HDMI outputs. nVidia and ATI Radeon being the most prominent.

You have some trouble with HDMI video output no signal from HDMI video output even the system configuration panel can not show on the tv but the composite video output is ok what should you do?

Assuming you have already tried unplugging the hdmi cable, and re-attaching it to make sure it is tight..... First, I would figure out if the hdmi output is bad on the DVD player, or if the hdmi input is bad on the tv, or if the hdmi cable is bad. Of course to do this, you would need a second hdmi capable tv, another hdmi source device and another hdmi cable. Once you figure out the source of the problem, decide it that component is worth replacing. Or, just run component.

A VGA-HDMI cord can plug into my monitor via the VGA side and the HDMI into the output device. Is the LCD monitor output still going to be analog which would make that cord useless?

When you use a VGA cable coming out of the monitor, the monitor is giving out an analog signal through the VGA connection. For the monitor to give out a digital signal, you need a DVI or HDMI cable. The VGA to HDMI cord just converts the analog signal into a digital signal so it's not completely useless, however the quality will not be as good as an HDMI to HDMI or DVI to DVI or HDMI to DVI

Will using an HDMI cable for an external monitor produce better graphics than using the VGA cable?

HDMI and VGA are both video interfaces capable of carrying computer display data to a monitor. HDMI is digital, VGA is analog. HDMI is NOT inherently better than VGA. Each will support a wide range of screen resolutions and it is the screen resolution and color depth that affect the image quality rather than the interface used. Choose a graphics card that supports the resolution you need and make sure it has the output you need to connect to your monitor.

Is a monitor a input output?

Actually, the monitor is a device wich has inputs (VGA-HDMI- etc...) And sometimes outputs (Audio-2nd Monitor, etc...) But, if you're looking your question in a computer-ish way, the monitor is connected to a computer output. To make it simple, monitor is connected to an output of the pc, or device

If one is hoping to use an LCD TV as a computer monitor what specs are important?

There is little difference between LCD TVs and computer monitors. There are only two things that are important when choosing an LCD TV to use a computer monitor.First, make sure the native resolution of the TV is suitable for the computer. Most modern computers can output 16 : 9 format displays, which the TV is likely to be. If the PC doesn't have a widescreen display, a new display card will fix the problem.Second, make sure the TV has a VGA input if the PC is VGA output. If the computer has a DVI output, then a simple DVI-HDMI adapter cable will connect to the HDMI input of the LCD TV. Note that audio will not be embedded in the signal, so a separate audio input will be needed in addition to the HDMI input. Once again, if the PC doesn't have a DVI output, a new video card can be installed that does have the right output. Most TVs will scale a computer image to fit the screen if the PC resolution doesn't match the TV's native resolution but you must be aware that the quality of the image will be compromsied, especially small text.

Is it possible to have speakers and HDMI play at the same time?

Generally, the answer is no: the sound output will be directed either to the "speaker out" jack or the HDMI jack. There may be some computers in which you can make both active at the same time but I am not aware of any at the moment.I would suspect that the most likely circumstance in which you could manage this would be if you had a sound card installed in your computer rather than using the integrated audio that came with the computer. Some sound cards have both HDMI and "speaker out" jacks and both may be active at the same time, thus providing the functionality that you seek.

Do HDMI cables make a difference on a standard TV?

No. HDMI cables will need an HDMI input and only HD capable TVs will have them.

What exactly is a video capture card?

A video capture card is a card used to get a picture from a TV source such as cable or satellite to your computer. Now they make HDMI cables which hook up to your TV and your computer and it projects video and pictures to and from your computer.

When using a DVI adapter with a HDMI cable how is sound processed?

DVI and HDMI cables are similar and compatible for digital video signals. HDMI also carries audio while DVI does not. If a DVI cable, connector or adapter is used anywhere in the signal path, the audio signal will be lost. As many computers have a DVI output and most televisions have HDMI inputs, it is common to find at least one HDMI input on a television with a linked analog audio input. It is usually a 3.5mm jack socket near the HDMI connector. To make use of it, the television's menu setting allows either HDMI or analog audio to be selected. Consult your television user manual for full details.

What does an HDMI port do on a notebook?

HDMI is a video and audio interface used on the latest AV equipment. The interface supports HD signals surround sound audio and also allows the display to tell the source what type of screen it is. The source and player will then both adjust themselves to obtain the best quality. HDMI video is also directly compatible with DVI connectors, the latest computer display interface. DVI does not support audio so even if the HDMI port on the computer carries a sound signal, using a DVI monitor means that the sound will still require a separate connection. To make use of the HDMI output, an HDMI to DVI cable will be needed. They are commonly available from AV dealers and other video stockists. Laptops are moving towards HDMI as the video output because of the reduced size compared to DVI or VGA. As laptops get ever smaller, the connector size becomes more significant so HDMI will become more and more common. It is worth saying that most HD televisions that have HDMI inputs will worth with most computers using a simple HDMI - HDMI cable.

How do you connect your laptop to your hdtv with your vga to HDMI cable?

HDMI cables are used as digital video and data links between video sources and televisions. HDMI is compatible with DVI interfaces so if the laptop has a DVI output, a DVI to HDMI cable can be used. If the laptop does not have HDMI or DVI, then there is no way to connect the VGA output to an HDMI input. There are several USB based video displays that can be purchased to connect to the laptop. The display can be used as a copy of the internal screen or it can extend the desktop across both screens. Select a display port that has either DVI or HDMI outputs.
