Physical harm to the baby really depends on how severely you injure yourself. If you are losing a good deal of blood, there is a chance that you can hurt the baby. It can cause premature birth, brain damage from lack of oxygen, or even miscarriage depending on the situation.

There is also a second line of thought involved in this. You are about to be a mother. If you are in a place in your life that you are cutting yourself, even if not enough to cause serious injury, something is wrong.

Cutting (even non-suicidal) is a sign of much deeper issues. You may be doing it to control stress. You may be doing it because something happened to you, and you feel you have no other outlet. There are many reasons people cut. You just have to think about the fact you are about to be in charge of a very little young life. There is a baby coming into this world that needs YOU.

If you want to be the best mother you can be, you need to get yourself in a better place. Even if not for the sake of the baby, for your own sake, you need to seek help. Babies are a mixed blessing. They are a great source of joy, but they are also a source of worry and stress. If you start getting the help you need now, you will be able to experience more of the joy part. You will also be able to better cope with the stress part.

You are NOT the only person out there cutting, or at least thinking about it. There is support from people that understand what you are going through to some degree. Talk to someone soon.
