Clarithromycin may cure chlamydia, but gonorrhea is often resistant to the medication. Clarithromycin is not a first-line treatment for chlamydia, either. There are easier medications that are equally effective.

Clarithromycin is indicated for lower resp tract, skin & soft tissue infections. Disseminated or localized Mycobacterium avium or Mycobacterium intracellulare. Prevention of Mycobacterium avium complex in HIV patients w/ CD4 counts ≤100/mm3. Eradication of H pylori in the presence of acid suppression.

That means only the above indication clarithromycin had tested to be effective.

Clarithromycin is used in the treatment of certain bacterial infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, infection of the ears, skin, sinuses, and throat. It may be effective against chlamydia, but it is not a first line treatment, as there are cheaper and easier alternatives such as azithromycin and doxycycline.

Two grams of azithromycin can clear gonorrhea and chlamydia. The problem is that this dose frequently results in vomiting, and if you don't digest the medication, you won't get cured. For this reason, preferred treatment is 250 mg ceftriaxone for gonorrhea and 1g of azithromycin for chlamydia. Talk with your health care provider about the best treatment for your situation.

It is not an antibiotic that is commonly used specifically for UTI's and there are better choices if that is what is primarily being treated but it would cure many of them.
