Well, let's think about it for a moment.

The magnesium is being oxidized by the oxygen in the air.

The oxygen is being reduced by the magnesium.

Sounds like redox to me.

More generally, a redox reaction is any reaction in which the oxidation state of the materials changes. In this case magnesium is going from 0 to +2 and oxygen is going from 0 to -2, so yes, it's a redox reaction.

Is burning magnesium an oxidation-reduction reaction?

You cannot 'burn' MgO, it is refactory. I take it you mean burning Magnesium metal in oxygen - if so the answer is that the magnesium is oxidised to MgO and the oxygen is reduced - all reduction/oxidation ('redox') reactions are coupled - if something is oxidised the other is reduced.

Why burning of fuel in oxygen and rusting of iron are considered as redox reaction?

There is a transfer of electrons during both reactions and that is what a redox reaction is.

When magnesium ribbon is ignited it gives off a white fume of magnesium oxide. What is this type of reaction?

The reaction is 2Mg + O2 ----> 2MgO Mainly it is a Composition reaction (also called as combination or syntesis reaction). But also catogrised in redox reaction & combution reaction.

What kind of chemical reaction is the burning of magnesium in oxygen?

it is the oxidation of Magnesium into Magnesium oxide which appears as a white powder. That is classified as a redox reaction, a term which is a contraction of reduction-oxidation. The magnesium is oxidized and the oxygen is reduced. The terms refer to the transfer of electrons. Electrons have a negative charge, so a recipient of electrons, such as oxygen is reduced in the sense that its charge becomes negative.

If lead oxide is heated with magnesium?

when it reacts with leadoxide it become magnesuim oxide. this is because they lead and magnesuim have undergone a REDOx (reduction and Oxidation). the lead has been reduced and they magnesium has be oxidised!!!!!

How can you justify that a reaction between magnesium and oxygen is a redox reactionwhile the reaction shows only addition of oxygen?

Magnesium loss electrons and oxygen gain electrons.

How can you justify that a reaction between magnesium and oxygen is a redox reaction w hile the reaction shows only addition of oxygen 2mg plus O 2mgo?

Oxidation is a redox reaction.

What did magnesium have to wait for before discovery?

powerful electroplating techniques. Magnesium is very electronegative and there was no effective means of refining it until oxygen free redox methods were available.

What is an example of a redox reaction?

One example of a redox reaction is the reaction between magnesium metal and hydrochloric acid to form magnesium chloride and hydrogen gas. In this reaction, magnesium is oxidized (loses electrons) to form Mg2+ ions, while hydrogen ions in the acid are reduced (gain electrons) to form hydrogen gas.

Is magnesium and hydrochloric acid an acid-base reaction?

No, it is a single displacement reaction. It can also be called a redox reaction. It is not an acid base reaction because although hydrochloric acid is obviously and acid, magnesium is a metal, not a base.

Is burning propane gas a redox reaction?

yes, it is a chemical reaction.
